Dec. 29th, 2015 04:49 pmWhen I was a child I believed that characters on TV couldn't lie. I knew real people in the world lied, I lied all the time!
I knew what acting was. Playing pretend basically. The actors were saying they were someone they aren't - lying basically. So how could a lie tell another lie? That's just too many layers to keep track of.
I remember when this view was shattered. My mom was watching a detective show. A woman was killed and they were trying to figure out who did it. My mom said it was the boyfriend and was frustrated that it seemed he might get away with it. "But he said he didn't do it!" I argued.
"He lied."
"But he can't do that!"
"Sure he can."
And I just sat there with my monkeys in a barrel trying to figure out how it could be that a fake person could tell a lie.
